How does it work ?
OARS321 is a server based online live results system originally developed for club and regatta yacht racing. Because of the complex nature of yacht race scoring it had to allow for lots of customisable elements, but can be used in its basic format for pretty much any race event that has results based upon finish times, handicaps, classes, etc.
It also stores participants details and contains an event registration module, which allows participants to enter multiple events using their same core details, without the need to duplicate entry effort for each event.
The system can be used anywhere where you have an internet connection and finish times can be entered at multiple sites, using laptop, tablet or phone, all feeding into the same results display. Automated finish data from tracking devices can be fed directly to the system to fully automate the event scoring.
Results display pages can be embedded in any website as an iframe or, if the user does not have their own website, can be displayed on a dedicated URL for participants to view.
The system consists of these main data tables:...
Member An individual, club or event organiser registers and stores details of their operation and their annual subscription level.
User Under Member and can include super admin / admin / scorer / user / viewer level entries. - These are the people who will actually administer the events and scoring.
Participant Related to the Member and take part in the races - e.g. A Boat, with details of the make, model, handicap etc, which stays constant throughout the various races.
Event A Member can have a number of events.. e.g. A Yacht Club can have a series of weekly races, plus an annual regatta and some special events throughout the year.
Entry Each Event has a number of entries taken from the Participant table above.
Race Each Event has a number of races, although a single regatta could just be one race, or a set of races.
Start Each Race can have a number of starts, usually based on the number of classes in the event
Finish Each Start will have a number of finishes based on the number of entries in that class/start.
For more details on each of these click on title for popup details.
How to use... First Register as a member. This is free, but you will be restricted to 2 Events, 2 Users, 4 Participants and 2 Races.. enough to test if the system does what you need.
You can increase your subscription to accomodate your needs and can upgrade throughout the year as your usage increases.
Once registered... enter your member details, then invite Participants to enter their boat details including their usual crew, IRC certificates, etc. Then you can use these to set up Events with Entries from that list.
Example ...
Happy Valley YC is a MEMBER Yacht Club with an annual subscription.
They hold weekly race days forming an annual series for 2 classes of boats - a one design class and a IRC handicap fleet.
In addition they hold a special gala day event plus an annual week long regatta open to non club members.
All racing boats at the club are PARTICIPANTS - this data is used to produce an ENTRY to an EVENT.
The annual series is a single EVENT with each race day having up to 3 RACES for each of the 2 classes.
The special one day gala is counted as a single EVENT with up to 4 RACES with one class with all boats
having a special one off handicap applied..
The annual regatta is a single EVENT with up to 10 RACES spread out over the week, with 4 classes competing, including entries from outside the club, all using IRC or local handicaps.
