FAQ

Why do the times shown not match my local time?
OARS321 is used by people throughout the world and so operates everything based on UTC, so that all times and calculations can be input and displayed using your local timezone offset. That it why it is important to set your timezone into the Members data page at the very beggining of setting up your races. If this does not solve your problem then it could be that your local server is actually set to a different time zone and will be producing the wrong offset. If you still have problems send us a HELP DESK ticket and we';; look at your settings.

The times for a race that goes through the night or lasts more than 24 hours are wrong.
If you dod not put in the DATE as well as the start and finish times the the system assumes the same day start and finish and will not calculate correctly. Check your finish DATE and time has been entered correctly.

How long does my subscription last?
Usually one year from the date of subscribing, but we can always discuss other periods.

How do i pay?
Payments are made via Paypal. Even if you dont have a paypal account you can use your credit card on their portal. We do NOT accept payments via phone and you certainly should not send credit or debit card information via any email. In exceptional circumstances we can accept international telegraphic transfers, but thes involves fees which you will need to cover.

Where are you based?
We are based in Malaysia and UK.. this is because we are involved in sailing events in Asia but are from the UK. It also assists in having support across multiple time zones.

Can the system interface with Yellowbrick Trackers and the like?
Yes it has been integrated on some events so that the finishes are completely automated with the trackers sending the boat mark and finish times direct to OARS321 where the results are calculated. YB trackers only provide the single race results whereas OARS321 provides series overall scoring automatically

Can you help set up the event for me?
Yes... we can suggest how you set up to handle particular rules within your sailing instructions. In fact if you send us the draft SIs then we can check that the system will cope with your needs before you issue the SI. Whilst we can customise the system for your needs there could be cost involved if it requires substancial changes or bespoke code writing.

Is my data secure?
Of course. all date for your events is not available for other Members, however we do have a means of having Entants, who are stored seperatley from Event, utilising the same boat data in a "Event Enties" seperate registration. This involves the boat owner registering their boat details and then using their unique boat number to enter an event that uses this scoring system. Thus they only have to complete one set of data for their boat and you, as race organisers do not have to complete an entry form for every competitor. More on this HERE.

What if i change my subscription limits during the subscription period?
You can request an increase to any of the limits and an additional fee will be calculated - there is a "what if" calculator online to see what any changes will mean to your current subscrition.

Why dont i just register many times as a member and use the free option each time?
You could do this but we have inbuilt checks to see if this is happening and your future registration may be blocked if this happens. Also you will find it difficult to keep changing registrations for each event. The subscription fees are very reasonable and are only to cover server and development costs, so we hope you will become a subscriber and help us maintain the system for all to use. Without subscribers we could not continue to operate
